January can be the perfect time to have your birthday party. The holidays area over and the New Year has just begun. Take advantage of a fresh new year to celebrate your birthday. The weather outside will probably not allow for much outdoor activity, but there are still plenty of fun things to do indoors.
Invitations
If you don’t have a specific theme in mind, pick a big and bright pattern. A little girls’ birthday invitation would look perfect in bright or neon shade of pink or purple. For your little birthday guy, pick a bright green or blue for a fun birthday invitation.
For grown up parties, January is perfect for new beginnings. This can be a perfect time to start your new birthday traditions. Again, if you’re not sticking to a particular theme, the sky is the limit; try a fun cocktail party, pot luck or board game night to snap your guests out of the mid-winter doldrums.
When planning your party, be aware that some may be celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. day on January 15th. This is typically observed on the 3rd Monday of the month. This shouldn’t interfere with your weekend party plans, but just good to keep in mind.
Games and activities
Birthdays are about more than just cake and presents. You should have some great games and activities in mind; especially if you’ll have lots of kids around. The weather is will probably keep you inside, so think of some fun indoor activities that are age appropriate and fun. Outdoor sports and games like kickball, baseball or soccer are great fun, but if your game is called on account of weather, have a backup plan. An interactive video game might be a nice treat if you’re stuck inside. Just note on you birthday invitation what you plans are, so guests can dress accordingly.
Locations
Given the time of year, you might not want to or have the space to host all of your guests in your house. In this case, think about another fun kid-focused location. Check out the spaces for rent at an arcade, skating rink, kid-themed restaurant, children’s museum, movie theatre, activity center, recreation center or any place that your birthday kid might like. Most places like this will have a space available for your group to eat, open presents, etc. in addition to discounted admission and activity prices. It’s definitely worth a look, especially if your group is large.
And if your group is large consider enlisting some help. Ask parents to come along when you send the birthday invitation. Or you might want to hire a babysitter or two to help keeping track of your group.
January can be a great time to celebrate. You’ve got almost all of the month to plan your party. With the exception of New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King Jr. day, you’ve got the rest of the month – no holidays to plan around. Take advantage of this quiet month for a great birthday celebration.
